SULO-Talbot works with council to provide new solutions!!
12 April 2010
SULO-Talbot have recently secured the contract to supply and distribute over 58,000 new waste collection containers to the residents of Palmerston North City Council.
By 2015 Palmerston North City Council is aiming to divert 75% of the waste that is currently sent to landfills and cleanfills each year by providing the community with further sustainable waste management options such as recycling. In order to achieve their goal, council is supplying all residents with two recycling containe rs; a wheelie bin for the disposal of all recyclables such as paper, cardboard, plastics and tin and a smaller crate for all glass containers such as bottles and jars.
SULO Talbot will manufacture and supply approximately 29,000 240 litre wheelie bins for the collection of co-mingled recyclables excluding glass and 29,000 45 litre recycling crates for the collection of glass.
“SULO-Talbot is doing something very new with this tender. In association with Palmerston North, we have agreed to utilise locally sourced and re-processed milk bottle and wheelie bin material in the manufacture of the new containers. This is a great example of a council and a community committed to ‘closing the loop”, states Karen Murray, SULO-Talbot’s Business Development Manager. SULO Talbot will employ local labour in Palmerston North while it also manages the Assembly and Distribution of all 58,000 containers. The distribution project is scheduled to begin on the 28th April 2010, when Palmerston North’s mayor, Jono Naylor is intending to deliver the first bin to a local resident.
